We promote R&D&i
INNOVATION IN OUR DNA
We understand new technologies as an opportunity to improve the quality of life of people and to face current and future challenges more efficiently.
PART OF OUR CULTURE
For Empresas Copec and its subsidiaries, innovation is key to being able to anticipate and adapt to increasingly challenging and constantly evolving environments. This is how companies have been incorporating technologies such as Big Data, artificial intelligence, internet of things and robotics, among others, into their productive and commercial processes.
Thus, each subsidiary currently develops initiatives that range from internally promoting a culture of innovation among its employees; strategic alliances with important international references such as MIT; and various innovations focused on delivering better services and products to its customers.
The focus on innovation of Empresas Copec and its subsidiaries is not new. In 2002, the Copec UC Foundation was born, a strategic alliance whose purpose is to promote research and development of innovative solutions addressing problems relevant to society while contributing to improving people’s quality of life.
In 2014, the UC Anacleto Angelini Innovation Center was inaugurated, a space open to all companies and enterprises, which encourages the creation of strategic alliances between public and private entities dedicated to research and development; and disseminates scientific and technological advances in the area of natural resources. It carries out every year the R&D&I Regular Contest, the R&D&I Contest for Young Researchers and the Contest for Higher Education Students: ‘Apply your idea’, delivering technical, commercial and financial support to various initiatives.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND ADVANCES
INNOVATION IN CORE BUSINESS
Innovation is an essential part of the ARAUCO strategy, combining ideas, technology, process optimization, creativity and entrepreneurship to develop new and better solutions for the needs of people and initiatives that seek social and environmental sustainability.
E2E, SUSTAINABLE HOUSING
This joint venture between ARAUCO and the Etex group was born with the aim of manufacturing and marketing wood-based, state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly and high-precision constructive solutions.
FIRST TEXTILE PULP MILL IN CHILE
It is an innovative project that is being carried out at the ARAUCO Valdivia Pulp Mill, which will allow to produce textile pulp for the first time in Chile, a premium product and that gives cellulose a new use.
INNOVATION FOR FUTURE ENERGY
Innovation is a strategic pillar for Copec, Mapco, Terpel and Abastible and its subsidiaries Duragas, Solgas and INSA.
COPEC, LEADING ELECTROMOBILITY IN THE REGION
Our subsidiary intends to take the lead in electromobility in Chile and the Region. In fact, today it has the most extensive network of electric chargers in South America, connecting 1,000 linear kilometers of the national territory, and will soon reach around 1,400 kilometers.
TERPEL, PIONEER IN ELECTROMOBIITY IN COLOMBIA
Terpel opened its first electric charging service point on the Bogotá-Medellín route, where it will have charging points every 100 to 120 kilometers. Thus, it became the first fuel distribution company in Colombia that offers in its stations charging service for electric vehicles.
Copec has also approached centers of technological excellence, and the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems that lead global development in these areas. A few months ago, the company joined the MIT Energy Initiative “Mobility Systems Center”, where leading companies are thinking and designing the mobility and energy ecosystem of the future.
ABASTIBLE, INNOVATION FOCUSED ON THE CUSTOMER
Enhancing innovation is a strategic priority in Abastible’s culture. For that purpose, they created i-NOW Lab, a project incubator aimed at accelerating and systematizing the execution of innovation projects, with a focus on improving the customer experience and process efficiency. Through i-NOW Lab, several initiatives have emerged, including the identification of customers through the fingerprint and the Abastible Meter, an IoT (Internet of things) device that delivers real-time data, of the level of gas in a cylinder, helping to manage its use and preventing customers from running out of supply.
ENHANCING INNOVATION IN THE INDUSTRY
Through our subsidiaries Golden Omega and Orizon, we are promoting the generation of R&D&I in the healthy food production industry.
GOLDEN OMEGA, HIGH VALUE KNOWLEDGE
The Golden Omega subsidiary proposal is based on the development and implementation of effective technological innovations in the world of Omega-3 fatty acids. To carry out this strategic vision, they have a team of scientists and engineers exclusively dedicated to Research and Development, state-of-the-art labs and a Pilot Plant.
Its productive technologies represent a new generation of processes of purification and concentration of Omega-3, materialized in three international patents and in the development of high-value knowledge and industrial secrets. As a result, Golden Omega offers a high-quality standard in purity of Omega-3 concentrates and an organoleptic quality unparalleled in the market. All this applied and effective innovation can be seen and tested in each of its products.
ORIZON, PRMOTING HEALTHY EATING
Orizon will soon house the Technological Center for Food Innovation (CETA) in its facilities in the IV region, aimed at promoting R&D&I in the food production industry.
