ARAUCO inaugurates Grayling project, the biggest Chilean investment in the US


The board plant, which has been in operation since February, involves an investment of US$ 450 million and will have an installed capacity to produce 800,000 m3 of wood panels per year.

Attended by senior executives from Chile and North America, ARAUCO officially inaugurated its new Grayling board plant, in the state of Michigan, thus taking an important step in its internationalization process and strengthening its presence as the largest panel producer for the furniture industry in the North American market.

With an investment of US$ 450 million, which meant the construction of the project by ARAUCO, Grayling is the largest Chilean investment in North America. In addition, it is the most modern particleboard plant of its kind in the world and the largest mill in the United States.

In terms of production, it will have an annual capacity of 800,000 m3 of wood panels for the furniture and decoration industry in the Midwest, where the states of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin are located, in addition to the Province of Ontario, in Canada.

During the opening ceremony, ARAUCO’s Executive Vice President, Matías Domeyko, said that “this is a historic day and a very important milestone for our company as it represents the culmination of a great project that not only represents the most important investment of the company in the United States but strengthens the position of ARAUCO as a global company and market leader.”
