BESS project at Copec’s Granja Solar is 64% complete

The construction of the battery energy storage system (BESS), a project developed by the subsidiary together with Transelec in the Tarapacá Region, is progressing favorably.

In July, the containers with the necessary supplies for the development of the project arrived. In total, there are 154 20-foot containers with battery cells that will enable a nominal injection power of 105 MW and a storage capacity of 420 MWh. During the second half of the year, the connection works will be carried out, with a view to starting operation in 2026.

“We are very proud of the progress of this project, which will provide us with a state-of-the-art energy storage system in 2026. This is our first BESS system and is a fundamental step in our roadmap towards sustainability, innovation, and energy security,” said Leonardo Ljubetic, Copec’s Development Division Chief.
