Copec adds its second large-scale photovoltaic plant
The subsidiary acquired the La Huella photovoltaic plant, an 87 MWp facility located in La Higuera, Coquimbo Region, from Clean Capital Energy. The plant has been operating since 2021 and generates close to 200 GWh per year, equivalent to the consumption of 90,000 households.
The project has more than 216,000 solar panels and will be operated by Copec Flux, while Copec EMOAC will market the energy. The company is also evaluating the addition of a battery system to store part of the solar output and deliver it to Chile’s National Electric System (SEN for its Spanish acronym) during peak demand hours.
“With the acquisition of La Huella, our second large-scale solar park, we reach a portfolio of 355 MWp of installed renewable generation capacity,” said Arturo Natho, CEO of Copec. The asset joins Granja Solar, with 123 MWp, and 23 small-scale distributed generation plants developed by Copec Flux.
