Copec promotes electromobility in regions with new electro-terminal in Copiapó

The subsidiary will be responsible for building and powering the first public transportation electro-terminal in Copiapó, a project that will make the city the first in South America with a 100% electric public transportation system. The project is part of the national electromobility plan by the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications.

Copec Voltex will manage the charging operation, which will use 100% renewable energy. The terminal will be located in Copiapó’s Terrapuerto and will connect intercity buses with local public transport. It will also have a charging management software and will power a fleet of 121 electric buses, distributed over 12 routes.

“Copec is proud to be part of this historic transformation for the Atacama Region. This project will not only allow the complete electrification of Copiapó’s main public transportation system, but will also provide a modern, clean and high-quality system for thousands of people. With public-private partnerships like this we are moving towards the democratization and progressive growth of electromobility, with environmental and social benefits for thousands of citizens,” said Andrea Castro, Copec Voltex CEO.

The subsidiary also announced that it will progressively add 20 new projects to the 12 electro-terminals already operating in Santiago.
