Copec acquires stake in Ampere Energy

In Spain, the agreement was sealed through which the subsidiary of Empresas Copec acquired a 13.5% stake in Ampere Energy, a leading manufacturer and marketer of second-generation electric batteries in the Iberian market. As a result of this agreement, Copec will join the Ampere Board of Directors, made up of a team of investors and professionals with an outstanding track record in the energy industry.

“In its definition as a mobility company, Copec seeks to contribute to the decarbonization of Chile’s energy matrix and the countries that host it, while capturing the opportunities that open up with the great trends on the global horizon, such as decentralization and digitalization,” Lorenzo Gazmuri, executive vice president of Copec said.

Ampere has an innovative technology that allows users to store the energy generated in their homes, through photovoltaic panels or wind turbines, for example, to cover all or part of their energy consumption, also offering the option of reinjecting excess power to the electric system. Distributed generation helps optimize electricity demand, improve service in saturated areas, reduce transportation losses, lower costs and reduce CO2 emissions.

Leonardo Ljubetic, Copec Development and Management Corporate Manager, said: “Ampere is an innovative, leading company, which is opening the way to distributed generation and residential storage, which is the energy model of the future. This new energy paradigm responds effectively to the environmental and economic demands of today’s world.”

Under the agreement between Copec and Ampere Energy, in an initial phase, operations will start in Chile and Colombia, to subsequently extend them to other countries.
