Pronto Copec and Nestlé seal recycling alliance

As part of its sustainability strategy, Pronto Copec has assumed an active role in reducing the use of plastic, by installing recycling areas in its stores. This initiative will be enhanced by an agreement with Nestlé, which will allow joining efforts to recycle about 40 tons of plastic containers per year.

The alliance was introduced by the head of the Environment Ministry Regional Office (SEREMI), Paola Cofré; the CEO of Pronto Copec, Nicolás Rostagno; and the director of Communications and Corporate Affairs of Nestlé Chile, Francisco Frei, at the Pedro Fontova service station. Under the collaboration agreement, Pronto Copec and Nestlé will collect waste to take back, recycle and, finally, recover plastic waste accumulated there.

Thus, containers of Maggi, Savory and McKay brands can be collected in the clean spots of Pronto Copec for the production of plastic wood. This joint action entails significant logistics since a container is discarded. PP5 flexible and PS6 plastics will be stored in the collection areas provided by Pronto Copec, so that the Rembre recycling company then removes the waste and transports it  to the facilities of the ReValora Foundation.

“We are excited to strengthen our commitment to the environment through this alliance with Nestlé, which will allow us to continue offering real and effective solutions to take care of the problem of plastic pollution. The 21st century poses great environmental challenges, and to face them successfully we need to combine wills from the public and private world and from the general public. This initiative is a good example of this,” the CEO of Pronto Copec, Nicolás Rostagno, said.
