COPEC inaugurates plant that extracts drinking water from the air

The subsidiary launched an innovative drinking water extraction plant that uses solar energy to provide this pollutant-free resource from the air. The pilot project was set up at the Copec service station on Route 68, in the municipality of Pudahuel, and was developed through a partnership with startup Source Global.

Using cutting-edge technology, the plant has the capacity to produce more than 250 liters of water per day under optimal conditions. It is made up of 50 hydro panels, which use solar energy to condense steam from the air and generate fresh, mineralized water, without the need to rely on the drinking water or electricity grids.

Copec’s New Energies leader, Alexander Worner, highlighted that “we have brought this technology that allows us to produce drinking water in almost any territory and at different scales, which is key for our country and the challenges we face as a result of water scarcity. We believe that this innovation has enormous potential to positively impact people’s lives. At Copec we want to deepen our social contribution to the country by promoting a sustainable transformation through innovations that allow us to address the needs of the present and future of Chile.”
