The subsidiary unveiled new 10- and 20-liter fuel containers that incorporate a percentage of post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR) and are developed according to eco-design criteria to reduce the use of virgin plastic without affecting the product’s safety or properties. The containers are certified by Chile’s electricity and f regulator, SEC, and comply with the standards required for fuel storage and transport, ensuring performance equivalent to the traditional format.
“This project reflects how innovation and sustainability can be integrated into the design of key products for our operation. Incorporating post-consumer recycled plastic into certified containers with high technical requirements, allows us to generate a tangible environmental impact and move forward with our sustainability goals,” said Camila Valenzuela, Copec’s sustainability director.
In environmental terms, the initiative is estimated to prevent 68.88 tons of virgin plastic and reduce 91.22 tons of CO₂ per year, while also boosting demand and value for recycled materials as a productive input.
The launch includes a gradual replacement across the gas station network, with the goal that during 2026, all containers sold will comply with this new standard.
