Arauco strengthens itself to face fires

To prevent this unfortunate scenario from occurring during the summer period, the subsidiary invested close to US$79 million in 2023 to intensify fire prevention, detection and firefighting activities.

This includes 883 ground brigades, 80 trucks, 10 mechanized brigades and 2 bulldozers, 16 helicopter transport brigades and 36 watchtowers. In addition, high-end helicopters will return, including two Aircrane model helicopters, each with a 10,000-liter unloading capacity, and a Super Puma aircraft with a 4,000-liter capacity.

On the other hand, several innovations were developed hand in hand with technology. Among them is the implementation of 122 robot cameras with artificial intelligence, to alert the rangers in the event of any unusual activity in the monitored areas. In addition, the company has created Wood Tracking, a mobile application that uses technology similar to that of Waze to identify interior roads in rural areas, their traffic conditions and, in the event of fires, to show in real time the resources deployed to fight them and the fire affected areas.
