Copec and Walmart seal alliance to lower energy consumption in the air conditioning of its stores

The subsidiary, through its energy trader, EMOAC, will implement smart engines developed by Turntide Technologies, which will enable the multinational to reduce by 25% the energy consumption to keep the air conditioning systems running inside its stores. This implies a saving of 6.8 GWh per year and a reduction of 1,645 metric tons of CO2 emissions.

The project involves the installation of 650 units with this technology in 87 stores located in the Metropolitan Region. To date, more than 110 motors have been installed in nine supermarkets in the municipalities of Buin, Peñaflor, Maipú, La Florida, Puente Alto, Vitacura and Huechuraba.

“At Copec, we want to drive a transformation in the way companies address their energy needs, and by investing in companies like Turntide we can offer innovative and sustainable solutions that improve the lives of people and the planet. Large retail companies, such as Walmart Chile, tend to have high energy demands and this technology allows them to reduce operating costs and mitigate environmental impacts effectively,” said Leonardo Ljubetic, Copec’s Development Division Manager.
