Copec Flux opens Chile’s first solar power plant with Tesla batteries

The Cousiño Project, a 2.9 MWp Small-Scale Distributed Generation Facility (PMGD for its acronym in Spanish), has become the country’s first non-conventional renewable energy (NCRE) initiative to integrate battery energy storage systems (BESS) using Tesla technology.

The plant incorporates three Tesla Megapack 2XL units with a total capacity of approximately 12 MWh, which will allow it to capture solar energy during the day and use it during peak demand hours, providing operational flexibility to the power grid. The project is the result of a partnership between Copec Flux and Tesla, developed over more than three years, whereby the Copec subsidiary became Tesla’s first Certified Service Partner in Chile, developing local capabilities for the implementation, operation, and maintenance of these systems.

“This partnership with Tesla allows us to move forward with the integration of energy storage solutions in Chile, combining world-class technology with the development of local capabilities for its implementation and operation,” said Juan Cristóbal González, CEO of Copec Flux.
